Amos Laar is a leading voice on evidence-based food policy in Africa. His work probes how food environments and the structural forces shaping them, drive diet-related diseases. He has >US$20M in grants and 150+ publications. Contributor to two Lancet Series – Commercial Determinants of Health and Ultra-Processed Foods, he co-curated Ghana´s 2021 Food Systems Dialogues and helped shape its 2023–2030 Food Systems Strategy. He leads Healthier Diets for Healthy Lives project, which is facilitating the development of policies on food marketing, front-of-pack labelling, public procurement, and fiscal measures in Ghana.

He leads the ECOWAS Food Policy Project facilitating the development of food environment policies in West Africa. In 2024, the African Union named him one of 13 co-conveners to oversee the development of its 2026–2035 Food-Systems Strategy. He serves on WHO Guideline Development Groups. In 2019, he was honored in The Lancet for his contributions to combating diet-related NCDs in Africa. He is a former President of the African Nutrition Society, convener of the Africa Food Environment Research Network (FERN), and a Fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences.
