Professor Tian received his Bachelor of Electronic Engineering from University of York, UK and his MSc of Biomedical Engineering from University of Oxford, UK. He graduated with his PhD in Medicine from University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, and was awarded the MPhil degree in Public Health from The University of Sydney. Prior to his current appointment at Harbin Medical University, he was directing the primary health care research program and digital health research program at The George Institute for Global Health, China.

His main research focus on the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases and injury using a health system lens, specifically including nutritional intervention for cardiovascular diseases and metabolic disorders, strengthening primary health care system to improve quality of care, integrated care approach for the growing burden of multimorbidity and unintentional injury prevention. He was selected as the “Emerging Leader” by World Heart Federation in 2018 and awarded as the Fogarty Global Health Fellow by Fogarty International Center of NIH in the US. Over the past five years, Professor Tian published widely as corresponding author or senior author, including publications in The New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, JAMA Cardiology, Circulation and The Lancet Public Health. Professor Tian has led several large-scale randomised controlled trials, with a total funding of over 40 million Chinese Yuan.
