Dr. Renata Micha is an Associate Professor of Human Nutrition at the University of Thessaly (Greece) and Adjunct Associate Professor at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University (USA). She is a registered dietitian, public health nutritionist, and epidemiologist, trained at Harokopio University, King’s College London, and Harvard University.
She served as Chair of the Global Nutrition Report (2019–2023), the world’s leading independent assessment of the state of global nutrition, endorsed by WHO, UNICEF, and the World Bank. In that role, she led the development of the Nutrition Accountability Framework—the first global platform for tracking nutrition commitments.
Her research focuses on generating and translating rigorous scientific evidence into practical interventions and policies that improve population health. She has particular expertise in global dietary assessment and in modeling the health impact of dietary habits. She has led numerous initiatives informing the design, implementation, and evaluation of nutrition strategies across settings—from schools and communities to clinical care. These efforts have emphasized both individual- and group-based approaches, supported by digital tools that promote personalized, scalable, and sustainable behavior change. Her current work increasingly includes exploring how Food is Medicine approaches can be integrated into healthcare systems.
Dr. Micha has authored over 160 peer-reviewed publications and was named, for three consecutive years (2022–2024), to the Clarivate list of the world’s top 1% most highly cited researchers.
